I have wanted to quilt for years... I've read books and such... but until a friend of mine recently invited me to her church once a week to join their quilting group... I didn't whole-heartedly purse it.
It's a bit different when you've got 'professionals' who know some tricks 'n tips 'n shortcuts.
They... now WE... make and donate baby quilts for a couple organizations around here.
Here's my first official quilt! They have a big 'ol honkin' quilting machine and I had to quilt it myself. The "pattern" is just free hand. My friend says that's usually pretty good to start with. I was pretty nervous, but I sure enjoyed it.
I guess I had BLUE in mind since my recent grandbaby is a little boy. Two month old now, by the way. ;o)
This is called a 9 patch.
It might be hard to tell but the flannel backing is white with teensy blue stars
(snakes might be a whole different matter though, shudder)
I mean, I used to pick ticks off my kids when they were little....
take care of squash bugs single handedly in my garden....
kill spiders... no problem...
But since the hatching of the zillions of cicadas or locuts, whatever you wanna call 'em... Oh My Gosh! The noise is deafening. They land on you. And then make that awful screech when ya send 'em flying. They're everywhere!
I know they don't bite or sting. I get that.
But it's like being in a sci-fi movie when you're outside.
I can't get my poor little brain wrapped around the fact it's almost June already! The rains have been crazy and almost never ending. We've gotten about 11" in May so far and more today. I know there are those that are getting so much worse and I pray for all those caught up in the flooding.
There's been a lot of changes around here since I last wrote....
My 93 year old father in law had to be admitted to the hospital for almost a week.
Turns out, among other things, he has leukemia... but docs say it's a good kind (if there is such a thing), that it can be treated with a couple of pills a day.
So he's out now and staying at my brother in law's until we can finish up a bathroom for him at our house. His bedroom is all done and ready. Yep, there's some changes a comin'. But he's not bed ridden, he's in pretty good spirits and is ready now to come here. He has wanted to stay in his own home as long as he could.... well, we might be nearing the end of that... and I think he has his mind wrapped around it in a good way.
He might surprise us and go back home for a bit, but I can't see it being long. And he's lonely. My mother in law passed 4 years ago January. We go to his house and visit, help him keep his home up, mow etc...and he comes here every Sunday for dinner after church.
That alone has been such an awesome experience for all of us..my kids... their kids... FAMILY! We're a pretty tight family to begin with and this is our normal. I love all the memories, laughter etc., that have been created!
So I won't turn down any prayers for whatever the good Lord has in store for all of us.
I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength
Blessings my friends!
P.S. I haven't had time to get anything created for my Early Works shoppe for June 1, but I still have a few little goodies on there... I've just lowered the prices for a little Memorial Day sale for ya!
