Pray for Dixie

 

My son-in-laws gramma, Dixie, is having major heart surgery this morning. If you can please take a moment to pray for Dixie and all those working on and caring for her, it would be much appreciated. Her doctor even told her that he would be praying with and for her, before..during..and after all this. That's an awesome blessing in itself!  Dixie is 75 years young and such a godly woman... she is more concerned about everyone else than herself.

Looks like we're supposed to have a few days of warm weather before the bottom drops out for the weekend. Down in the 30's in the evenings... brrrrr.

Today at church, our pastor said something about the Bible that I wanted to share...

"It's the only book you can read and talk to the author at the same time!"

Early Works

Well I've been pretty busy spoiling my new grandson and keeping the green eyed jealousy at bay of my 3 yr old grandson  too. Oh he really hasn't been too bad....he's just not sure who this little guy is and is he staying? LOL   Me and him have been having some extra gramma and grandson dates! We've both been loving these. Yeah!

 Sunday night I'll have some new whimsical creations in my Early Works shoppe for October! They'll go live about 8pm or so. Hope you stop by and check them out! Here's a little sneaky peeks for ya...

 Which also means just a couple more weeks until my next grandbaby arrives!

Cool Give Away

Apples!!

We'll it might typically be a tad early for picking apples, but with the drought we've had... seems like things are acting a bit differently. You either lose a crop all together or it flourishes like crazy! I've heard when you have a late hard frost (speaking of apple trees now).... and it kills the blooms...that you don't get anything that year but the next is usually a bumper crop.  

Such was the case last year and this.

 

Our trees are wonderfully loaded this year, so much so, that I feared the branches would snap, crackle, pop. Even the picture doesn't do justice to how many there are!

I picked and loaded up boxes and baskets galore until I could do no more. Holding one of those long handled baskets for picking can really throw one's neck and back a fit!

Last weekend I finally got the time to start cooking up applesauce! It took me all day.... did it really take this long when I was younger!!!  ... but I'm only about halfway through what I picked and the trees still have more fruit ripening at the tippy top. 

Gonna be a real challenge for those raccoons and deer!

Sidebar...a couple days before I picked, I walked out to see if they were ready and saw a small raccoon up on a branch... being vewy vewy still and trying to blend in!  It was pretty funny, and I left him to his feast.

Fortunately I have one of those little hand crank machines that cores, peels and slices...otherwise I'd have never made it through the day! 

For me, even though the work is hard... it's so satisfying knowing I grew them and there are no pesticides or names I can't pronounce on my jars!

I used to make applesauce where it turned out all nice 'n purty 'n smooth...but my family called it baby food and wanted chunky. So that's how I've made mine for years. The plus is, you can open up a jar of these babies, add a little cinnamon, nutmeg, etc.,, walla..

 apple pie baby!

Is it on mama???

I have to share what my 3 year old grand son said recently....
 My daughter is due in less than a month with my 2nd grandbaby...
Nope, they don't know what it is yet and
 they have decided to keep it that way.

 It's been hard on her with this heat but we thank the Good Lord
for working air conditioning!

 So... she tells her son, "You wanna feel the baby move?"
 His little face just lights up with awe when he feels it.

 A little later he comes up to her, puts his hand on her ever growing belly and says....
 "Mama, is it on? Turn it on mama!" 

PRECIOUS!

Me updates

Howdy friends! Well a few updates and not about crafting...  had me some surgery last Friday.

A torn meniscus in my knee and the arthritis scraped out (shudder)

I'm still hobbling but have graduated from crutches to a little 'ol lady walker...soon to a cane 

and I'll be dancing at my son's wedding in October!

Knee is still swelled... would have figured it would be down with icing it so much.

Oh well, this too shall pass.

So I highly doubt there will be anything new in my Early Works shoppe for July...

 Actually, creating has been the last thing on my mind...

 but I'll leave my Americana goodies in there if you're interested.

Before my surgery, I did put a few new Americana goodies in my Etsy shoppe and Website.

It's still so buggery hot outside!

This weather has been nuts.

So I hope ya'll are keeping cool.

Happy Mama's Day!

Another beautiful May day! Thought I'd take a little break from gardening so I can add a Happy Mama's Day to ya'll!  Whether you're the giver or receiver... there seems to be "at least" one special Mother's Day that stands out in your mind.

Yep, I've had years of the most beautiful hand made crayon art work,  macaroni pictures and hand made cards from my kiddos when they were little...just to name a few.... but if someone asked me which Mother's Day popped in my mind first.  Here 'tis...

My daughter... she had to be 16 or 17 or so, I just remember she was of driving age... had snuck out of the house the night before.  Now it's not what you may think, so hold on! ;o)   We probably had the attic fan on, so I never heard her leave the house all mousey quiet. (ok in hind sight, that's not a comforting feeling!)

I'm always the first one up and it was such a beautiful Sunday morning, I was planning on taking my coffee out on the deck like I usually did.  By the coffee pot was a note from my daughter that she was sending me on a scavenger hunt! So I followed each carefully hand written note from one destination to the next, little pictures were drawn in the margins as well. She sent me through my gardens, to my favorite bench I'd like to sit on, etc.... a nice little stroll.

I had an old mailbox in one of my gardens and I noticed the flag was up. This was my destination! I carefully pulled the door down and inside sat a little box. Anticipation had been building on my journey and I couldn't wait to see what was inside.  My daughter had bought me the most beautiful cross necklace with little diamonds on it....it was breath taking! 

Of course, one of my first little thoughts was... she spent way too much on me!  Then I removed it from the box and noticed a little piece of paper sticking out from underneath... the final note... telling me in words and thoughts that were so "adult"... of how much I meant to her, etc etc.  Oh gosh how I love that girl.

When our house was broken into and burglarized 3 years ago... this was the only piece of jewelry they didn't find... it was hiding in plain sight and I thank the Good Lord the thief's never saw this one. It would have hurt worse than everything else combined that they took from us!

Anyway.... I'd love to hear if you have a special Mother's Day memory... share with us if you have the time!

New Grandbaby on the way!

I am always amazed when I see these pictures! I got the privilege of going with my daughter when she got another sonogram yesterday! And here's a little sneaky peeky at our newest little one. They don't want to know if it's a girl or boy this time... they want the surprise. Their son will be 3 in July and this one will make his/her appearance in September!  This is a profile pic and you can make our the little nose and hands... my daughter says... "It looks like it's got a big nose!" hawhaw 

How does your garden grow!

Less than a month ago I posted some garden pics... well everything is coming up wonderful and thought I'd update them! Of course I'm still adding... I love love love flowers and plants!  Enjoy!
